Identify who decides to pay
SkillExchange vs Skillfully starts with a question hidden by the word “skill”: are you selling a callable capability to an agent workflow, or a method that a person wants their assistant to follow?
SkillExchange positions itself around agent discovery and transactions for MCP and A2A capabilities. Skillfully focuses on an expert’s audience paying to apply that expert’s method through supported assistants. These models can overlap technically, but the buyer’s reason to pay and the seller’s operating responsibilities are different.
Choose SkillExchange for further investigation when your product is a developer-facing capability and you want to evaluate agent-oriented distribution. Consider Skillfully when your expertise, reader relationship, and continuing improvement are the product. Before making a financial comparison, resolve the inconsistent revenue-share figures on SkillExchange’s pricing page.

What SkillExchange documents, and what remains unproven
SkillExchange’s homepage describes an MCP-native, A2A-ready marketplace in beta. It promotes skill publication, discovery, fiat payments through Stripe, and agent transactions. Those are the provider’s claims about its product; a public landing page does not independently establish a successful transaction or a production service level. SkillExchange homepage.
Its developer documentation presents an API entry point and sections for authentication, rate limits, skills, agents, protocols, and Stripe. That makes integration behavior a relevant part of a seller’s evaluation. A callable product needs a clear request contract and a predictable response when something cannot be completed. The creator page frames earning around agents discovering and using a capability. Evaluate that distribution model as a hypothesis for your particular product. A listing can be technically discoverable without reaching agents whose users want to pay for it. SkillExchange creator program.
We do not use the site’s audience counters, testimonials, or revenue illustrations as independently verified traction. Different public sections display different totals and commercial figures. That is a reason to ask precise questions, not enough evidence to conclude that the platform cannot work.
Skillfully begins with a known expert and audience
Skillfully’s public offering is for established authors and experts who can reach readers directly. It describes paid methods used in ChatGPT and Claude, with feedback helping the author improve them. It uses application or invitation based onboarding and explicitly distinguishes itself from an open marketplace. Skillfully homepage.
The distinction affects marketing. A reader may choose a Skillfully offer because they already trust an author’s framework. A developer evaluating an agent-callable capability may care first about its inputs, outputs, latency, failure behavior, and cost. Both audiences can value expertise; they encounter and evaluate it differently.
Do not interpret shared MCP language as product equivalence. A connection protocol can carry access to different kinds of value. Our explanation of agent skills versus MCP separates the procedure a skill teaches from the integration an assistant uses to reach capabilities.
For sellers, that means the first product description should identify the customer’s job. “MCP-compatible” can be useful technical information, but it does not explain why anyone wants the result.
Resolve the pricing contradiction before estimating margin
At verification, SkillExchange’s pricing cards showed a free plan with an 80/20 share, a €19 monthly Pro plan with 85/15, and a custom Enterprise plan with 90/10. On the same page, the detailed feature table showed 90/10 for Pro and 95/5 for Enterprise. The paid-plan percentages therefore conflict. SkillExchange pricing.
Do not quietly select the more favorable figure. Ask which share applies to your account, what the calculation base includes, and which contract or checkout terms govern. Also confirm processing costs, refunds, chargebacks, payout timing, and any usage charges relevant to the capability you intend to sell.
Hypothetical sensitivity check: On €1,000 of eligible revenue, the difference between an 85% share and a 90% share is €50. That is arithmetic, not an earnings prediction. It illustrates why a five-point discrepancy matters before accounting for a subscription or operating costs.
There is no verified public Skillfully fee schedule in this comparison. Obtain current author terms and compare them against confirmed SkillExchange terms. Until then, the defensible conclusion is that the margin comparison is incomplete, not that either provider is cheaper.
A worksheet for the unit you are selling
The following is an original product-definition exercise. Fill it before discussing conversion rates or marketplace reach.
| Decision | Callable capability example | Expert-method example |
|---|---|---|
| Customer’s job | Validate a structured dataset against specified rules | Decide which customer segment deserves further research |
| Input | Declared fields and configuration | Notes, evidence, constraints, and unanswered questions |
| Useful result | Validation report with actionable errors | A reasoned next step with uncertainty made explicit |
| Commercial unit to investigate | Request, usage allowance, or another documented unit | Access to the maintained method under a defined offer |
| Failure that needs a policy | Timeout, malformed input, partial execution | Missing context, unsuitable problem, unsupported conclusion |
| Evidence of value | Correct results on representative requests | Better application of the method on a real decision |
These are illustrative product shapes, not a claim that either platform implements every billing unit listed. The worksheet helps you ask the platform the right question rather than accept a generic “monetization supported” answer.
A hybrid is possible. An expert method might call a separate data capability. If so, define who pays for that dependency and who supports it. Customers should not discover an essential additional cost halfway through the workflow.
A hypothetical data-quality product
Imagine a developer has created a tool that checks sales exports for duplicate customer records. The tool accepts a file, produces candidate matches, and explains why each match was flagged. This is a hypothetical scenario rather than a SkillExchange customer story.
A marketplace aimed at agent-callable capabilities could suit that product if the developer can demonstrate its contract. The evaluation should include valid input, missing fields, unusually large input, and a retry after an interrupted request. The critical result is not merely that an agent can call the tool. It is that the surrounding workflow can interpret the answer and recover from failure.
The seller should settle whether a failed request is billable, whether retries can duplicate work, and what evidence helps support diagnose an incident. Those are questions to investigate with the provider; we have not verified SkillExchange’s answers in a live transaction.
Now imagine the same developer also teaches a method for deciding when duplicate cleanup is worth doing. That instructional product asks different questions: which records matter, what risk a merge creates, who should approve it, and when uncertainty is too high. It may be valuable even when no cleanup action occurs.
A Skillfully offer could be relevant to that established method if the expert has an audience and the supported assistant experience fits the task. It would not turn the underlying data tool into a hosted service by assumption. Keep the tool, method, and commercial obligations distinct in the offer.
Validate discovery and demand separately
For an agent-oriented marketplace, a useful pilot has two stages. First, establish whether the intended client can discover the capability, understand its description, and invoke it correctly. Second, establish whether the result is valuable enough that the customer wants to keep using it under the actual price and terms.
Passing the first stage does not prove the second. A perfectly structured manifest can describe an unwanted product. Conversely, a valuable method may sell through a direct relationship even if it never appears in a broad agent directory.
For a reader-oriented offer, perform the same separation in plain language. Can the reader start the method? Does applying it improve their next action? Ask for a concrete result, such as a clarified decision or a corrected brief, rather than a general satisfaction rating alone.
Our guide to running a manual trial before automating a skill helps establish that evidence without making distribution infrastructure the first investment.
Decide with a short evidence file
Before committing, retain the proposed commercial terms, one representative first-use walkthrough, the unresolved support questions, and the customer’s assessment of the result. Label provider statements separately from your own observations. A successful demonstration should not become a claim about all buyers, all clients, or future uptime.
SkillExchange can be the right candidate to investigate for an agent-callable product. Its beta positioning and contradictory pricing make confirmation especially valuable. Skillfully can fit an established expert’s paid method, with the limitation that authors bring a relevant audience and enter through onboarding rather than an open listing flow.
